Homage To Sorolla (Sorolla's daughter Maria)

This is a study I did of Joaquin Bastida Sorolla's painting from 1907 entitled Maria Painting In El Pardo. He is one of my favorite artists from the same era as Sargent. Sorolla was Spanish and painted many paintings usually large. He painted his own family many times. It is hard to capture the freshness and painterly quality of his work. This was a great learning exercise for me. Sorolla lived from 1863 to 1923. He was one of the greatest natural painters of all time. His capture of light, color and movement is as fresh and timeless today as it was then. This is entirely my interpretation of his painting. oil on pintura board 9x12 NFS
