Deep Thoughts About Cookies

Every time I paint a picture of a small male child from a photo they seem to have some familiarity about them that I can see my son when he was a little boy. I miss those times. He was and is the cutest little boy in the world, only now he is 24! This little fellow is just like him. Although this painting may look fuzzy, it is the way it is painted not the way it was photographed for a change! The painting is 6x6 oil on hardboard. 2008 $110.00

Snorkle

I found this wonderful photo in the free photo library at WetCanvas. If you have never been to wetcanvas.com, it is a vast resource of information as well as an artist community to choose from. I have been wanting to paint an underwater scene for a while and I thought this would make a great painting. I think it turned out well. The colors of the reflections in the water with the sun coming through were amazing to paint. 2008 12x12 oil on hardboard. $500.00

New Friends

A chance encounter of two women on a walk at the beach leads to a new friendship. Have you ever had that happen? Just meeting a person and your intuition tells you they would make a wonderful friend, and they really do! I wonder if is is just a coincidence or fate... 2008 6x8 oil $125.00

Tattoo

Mr. Tattoo is a wonderful subject to paint. The colors in rooster feathers are as varied as the different breeds. Beautiful metallic colors like you fine in natures most precious metals, the brightest reds, blues and earth tones. 2008 6x6 oil on hardboard $110.00

Lunching With Jane Austen

This painting was such a pleasure to paint. I worked hard to get the shadowing and texture of the stone. I think she is reading Jane Austen on her lunch break. 5x7 oil on board 2008 $150.00

Jay Walkers

This was a complicated subject for me and I got too lost in the details. I think it works. I like the cross walk stripes, they define the whole painting and give it meaning, other wise it would be a bunch of people wondering around on a flat surface with no purpose. 12x12 oil on masonite 2008 $350.00

Graceful Perfection

Isn't she beautiful? It is so refreshing to see a little girl look like a little girl for a change. I kept everything light and simple, hoping to capture the quiet mood and the graceful beauty of this child. 2008 oil 5x7 on board. S150.00

Miss Edna

This painting is from a photo of my mother. We were sitting in her yard and there isn't really a pond there I just added it. My mom is almost 91 years old and her vision is almost gone. She loved to fish more than anything. I think that is where my addiction to creeks and rivers comes from. She doesn't get to fish anymore so I thought this would be a little homage to her fishing days. She is still a beautiful woman today.6x6 oil on masonite. 2008 NFS.

Apple Pi

I must have been in the right mood to paint this apple because I had to paint it two times! I think the final result is what I was looking for. The pi sign is just a little added whimsey as is the title Apple Pi. Maybe a mathematician would like to purchase this piece. Wonderful vivid color and brush strokes creating this piece of Apple Pi served up just for you to enjoy. 6x6 oil on masonite. 2008 $110.00

Paddling At The Beach

Another photo from RobW at Flickr. I want to go to the beach! Don't we all? Painting it will have to do while I soak my feet in the kiddie pool with a cool ice tea pretending I am listeing to the waves. I used a lot of textural brush strokes on this one. I think the contrast of the skin tones against the turquoise water work really well. 6x6 oil on masonite. $110.00

Gathering Ingredients

This is the companion piece to yesterdays painting once again, the inspiration came from RobW at Flickr. Always ask for permission when using other people's photos. Painting water is very difficult to me that is why I am painting it so much. I hope to improve. Thanks for looking! 6x6 oil ©2008 $110.00

Backside Blossoms

I wanted to name this piece, Does This Make My Butt Look Big? But changed my mind. I borrowed the inspiration photo from a flickr photo. I am really pleased with the way this turned out. Take a look at the man's red high tops. From time to time I like to put red high tops on various people in my paintings Why? I just like them they are fun. Skin tones are a challenge to me, I usually make them too light with not enough variety in the tonal changes, I am working on that. Oil 10x10 on canvas board. $200.00.

I am now listing on my new website to sell my paintings. http://nrhodesharper2.boundlessgallery.com I haven't added all of my paintings yet. I have been overwhelmed with setting up all of these technical sites after all I would rather be painting. Please visit my daily art painters site as well. http://dailyartpainters.com

Ladies Man

I love lady bugs!I I have been infatuated by them all my life. When I was in highschool lady bugs were my signature. I had earrings, swimsuits, glasses, you name it. Now that I think about it I must have been a lady bug geek. I painted this little man(yes, man) on pintura board. I like the complementary colors. 6x8 oil on board $110.00

It's Not Easy Being Plein 2

The second in a series of plein air painters. Plein air means in the open, to paint outside from life. Painting outside can be stressful because you have all of the elements to deal with and everything is there as opposed to a photo containing a certain subject. ©2008 9"x12" oil on canvas board $210.00
