Chlotilde Looks Inquisitive

Just finished this little painting. I am obsessed with Paris these days. I want to paint there so bad. I want to paint the people! I imagined this persons name is Chlotilde, someone who walks in the park with little white gloves, red sweater and gray wool skirt with little black ballerina flats. She will be available in Daily PaintWorks. 6x6 oil on board ©2011 Thanks for looking

Blonde Barbie by Nancy Rhodes Harper

First of all I would like to thank my followers I appreciate you all so much and Welcome to new followers! In keeping with the Barbie Doll theme I thought the original Blonde Barbie should have her place in this series. It is difficult for me to translate a toy with a face to canvas and have it look like a toy. The color palette helps with vibrant choices. I am having a lot of fun painting these little gems for whimsy. If you are interested she is for sale at Daily Paint Works and the link to my DPW gallery is to the right on the side bar. 6x6 oil on board. Thanks for looking! I hope everyone has a healthy happy Thanksgiving here in the states!

My Barbie Doll by Nancy Rhodes Harper

My painting is a painting of the Barbie Doll that I once had, not from life but as I remember her. I gave Barbie away to another little girl to enjoy many years ago. I remember my summers with Nancy Ward. We were Barbie fiends. We took them everywhere. At the swimming pool they would lay out on washcloths for towels, they rode around in comfort right in our bicycle baskets. We used to design and make all of their clothes. Nancy and I would go to the local mercantile to buy fabric. They sold us a strip of fabric about 6 inches deep and 36 inches wide for 5 cents! My dad took me to the store before school started one day to buy Barbie so I would be able to take her to school with me. I will always love you Barbie and I miss you too!

The Lumber Yard by Nancy Rhodes Harper

I went in search of something to paint the other day and passed by an open gate down town. What I spied inside was amazing! It looked like a movie set. Old buildings, a train car, a cafe, plants, fountains etc. Of course I had to stop and paint it! The owner, Doug Smith happened by to look at what I was painting and told me it is a place they rent out for events, such as parties, receptions, corporate events. It is called The Lumber Yard just off Cleveland St in Huntsville, Al. I am going back again to paint more. This is a 9x12 oil on panel ©2011 $325.00 unframed plus S/H see Daily PaintWorks to purchase. Thanks for looking.

Maple Hill by Nancy Rhodes Harper

I painted in our historic cemetery last Saturday. The beautiful old headstones and monuments have something that can't be reproduced today. The patina, the designs so beautiful showing how much the families loved ones meant to those left behind. The cemetery was a peaceful place to paint and the reverence I felt for those resting at Maple Hill was all encompassing. 8x10 oil on linen ©2011 NFS at this time.

Little Red Corvette by Nancy Rhodes Harper

Last fall I had the privilege to take a workshop from Tim Horn (a fabulous California artist). The workshop was at the Sandy Springs Art School. Tim was a wonderful instructor and I learned so much. One of the participants of the workshop owned this corvette and her husband brought it for us to paint. I wish I could have purchased Tim's demo but it wasn't in the cards. This is my own version of the car. This painting will be featured in an ad in American Art Collector Magazine where I am included with a wonderful group called Contemporary Fine Art International. The ad will be available in Oct or Nov. I am excited! Thanks for looking 6x6 oil on hardboard ©2011 Purchase price $200.00 from DailyPaintworks.

Chop and Stir by Nancy Rhodes Harper

I love to paint chefs and waiters. I like to capture the busy movement of a kitchen or a dining room. This is a painting I just delivered to Rennaisance Art Gallery in Northport, Alabama. I got to see first hand the devastation left by the tornado in Tuscaloosa. It is unbelievable. So much more to do there.  I think my new word is simplify, which pretty much covers everything in my life. My paintings, my possessions, my home, my life in general. It is really hard to do! This painting is 11x14 ©2011 oil framed and waiting for a new home. ContactRenaissance Art Gallery if interested. Thanks for looking! Happy Fourth Of July America!!

Umbrella Daze

This is another painting that will be for sale and presented at The Anne Irwin Gallery June 17 show called A Tale Of Two Cities - Paris and Atlanta. I used a palette knife on this piece. I have never used the knife much, to be honest it is one of those things that scares me a little. I had to use it here though because the steps were so overwhelming and I just needed to make an impression of them with the knife. oil 11 x 14 deep gallery wrapped linen. ©2011 Thanks for looking. Orange Bowl by Nancy Rhodes Harper

I have been really busy painting for a show at Anne Irwin Fine Art on June 10 in Atlanta, Ga. It is a themed show entitled A Tale Of Two Cities...Paris and Atlanta. More about that later. This little painting was a quick study done as a still life. I am not a big fan of painting still life's because I am weak in that area but all the reason I need to do it more often. I tried to used bold brushwork and brilliant color to achieve the results I wanted. I love these little Fiesta Ware bowls to paint. Enjoy and thanks for looking. 6x6 $150.00 oil ©2011

Trolley Bike by Nancy Rhodes Harper

I snapped a photo of this scene in Charleston, SC while there for Thanksgiving. I thought the bike in front of the trolley speeding by was a great comparison of ways to travel. I have developed an affinity for wanting to paint trolleys for some reason. Of course I was trying to get across the street to the Starbucks you see in the window of the Francis Marion Hotel. 6x6 oil on hardboard. ©2011 Thanks for looking

Turkey Run by Nancy Rhodes Harper

Two people stretching before the annual Turkey Run in Charleston, SC at Thanksgiving.I was in Marion Square Park taking pictures and captured these two stretching. They kind of looked like they were in a football stance to me. When I started painting this piece I was surprised at how difficult it was to execute this pose. I think it worked out well and I like the painting. 6x6 oil on hardboard ©2011 Thanks for looking!
