Trolley Bike by Nancy Rhodes Harper

I snapped a photo of this scene in Charleston, SC while there for Thanksgiving. I thought the bike in front of the trolley speeding by was a great comparison of ways to travel. I have developed an affinity for wanting to paint trolleys for some reason. Of course I was trying to get across the street to the Starbucks you see in the window of the Francis Marion Hotel. 6x6 oil on hardboard. ©2011 Thanks for looking

Great contrasts in this painting--the dark interior of the coffeshop and the trolley have such a different feeling than the brightly lit street. And the bicycle looks great silouhetted against the street. Wonderful painting!

Really like how everything is suggested in this painting, no detail and none needed. Makes me want to take a trolley ride.

Nancy, after reading your entire profile, I felt so connected to your journey. I've had a similar path, and similar goals, and can identify with your striving to be looser and freer in your brushstrokes. It is so challenging ! I try and try, and sometimes I even like the results ! ha ! thanks for your comment on my blog...
