Turkey Run by Nancy Rhodes Harper

Two people stretching before the annual Turkey Run in Charleston, SC at Thanksgiving.I was in Marion Square Park taking pictures and captured these two stretching. They kind of looked like they were in a football stance to me. When I started painting this piece I was surprised at how difficult it was to execute this pose. I think it worked out well and I like the painting. 6x6 oil on hardboard ©2011 Thanks for looking!

I like seeing your brushstrokes! Great job in capturing the light and the anticipation of a race!

It did work out well. I really like your simplification.
It does look as though they're ready to play a game of touch football.

I think you nailed their pose and I also love the contrast of the lighted areas and the shadow areas. Great job!!

Thanks everyone. Do you ever start painting with an idea of how you want to paint a picture and it ends up totally different? I do it all the time. It looks ok but gee I wanted it to look like this or that. Our mind is a funny thing when a paint brush is in our hands! Thank goodness for the opportunity.
