The Mermaid by Nancy Rhodes Harper

I remember being infatuated with mermaids when I was a child. We used to pretend to be mermaids at the pool in the summer. I like to think there are beautiful mermaids living happily beneath the ocean. 6x6 oil on hardboard  ©2011  Email me if interested! $150.00

This is my new favorite, Nancy. Wonderful job on the skin. Love those big strokes. And the way her body and arm disappear into the water is just beautiful. Well done!

thanks Justine. My photo is not good and almost looks like watercolor instead of oil. It was fun to paint.

Thanks so much Shirley, you know water has always been a thorn in my side when painting. It is nice to know it actually looks like water!

This is a stunning painting...so effective. I love the luscious strokes of color and the way that you were able to make the water feel like water.

As a firm believer in Peter Pan. Your mermaid reminds me of his time with them. Like how the light reflections are handled very much.
